Why sign this petition?

​Accountablity.  The best way to keep Whitby municipal councillors accountable is to have the ability to vote for or against them after each term of office.  It is the foundation of our democratic process. We have a representative democracy. Because we have a ward system, ward councillors from the four wards vote on issues affecting your neighbourhood.  But because they might represent ward 1 and you live in ward 2 you can't hold them accountable for decisions they make. We believe it's a better system to have all 9 members of council directly elected by every voter.  This can happen if we eliminate the wards and elect the Mayor, 4 Regional Councillors, and 4 Local Councillors, at large. Please sign the petition and choose democracy in Whitby.
